How to reverse engineer your ambitions?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Reverse engineering your ambitions is an extremely efficient way to go about achieving your dreams within the music industry. After all, it provides clarity of the vision and the steps that you need to take in order to get there. In this article, we’re going to talk about what the art of reverse engineering your ambitions is, and the exact details on how it will take you towards the next level of success within your career.

Essentially, reverse engineering your ambitions is deciding on your end goal, and writing down the steps you need to take in order to get there. It may be a musical ambition such as achieving a record label release, or even financial ambitions such as earning one million dollars in revenue during a financial year. Whatever the objective, it is certainly a great way of providing clarity for your vision.

For example, let’s say that you want to earn a million dollars in revenue from your music career. What would be the best way to do that? Using the art of reverse engineering, we can work backwards from the final goal. In this case, there may be multiple revenue streams. In order to make a million dollars selling production beats at $500, you’d need to sell 2000 instrumentals. But on the contrary, you could simply go after wealthier clients to warrant the higher price. If you were able to sell beats to big rappers and singers at $5,000 each, you’d only need to sell 200 to raise a million dollars in revenue. Of course, the most efficient way to do this would be doing a multi-track production deal for an album in order to speed up the process. Alternatively, you could raise a million dollars from playing shows on a regular basis. If your brand becomes big enough to warrant a $20,000 fee, you’d only need to play 50 shows. That’s one every 7 days (approximately).

Now that you’ve done the math of exactly what you need to do in order to achieve your goal, it becomes a simple case of realizing how you will get to that position. For example, if you want to charge $5,000 per production, it’s definitely worth networking with employees of major labels, and the management teams of big artists so that they become aware of your artist brand. Likewise, playing regular shows at large venues would help you to build up your fee to $20k per show.

In order to begin the process of executing your reverse engineered plan, you need to begin developing an extremely strong work ethic. It’s worth noting that your dreams won’t happen in the next couple of months (most likely). Therefore, patience is extremely important when it comes to achieving your ambitions. Likewise, it’s important to start honing in on both your DJ and production skills so that people are willing to pay a higher price for your services.

You need to discipline yourself to work hard, every single day if you wish to actually achieve what you want in life. Dreaming and knowing what you want to do in life is all good in theory. But without hard work and execution, it’s simply not going to happen. Take a step back and evaluate your life. Are you putting in enough work to realistically fulfil your ambitions in the desired timeframe? Use your final goal as inspiration and motivation for working hard.
